We have heard a lot about ransomware over the past couple of years, and believe it or not, what we have heard to date is only just the beginning. According to a report by Commvault, approximately 50% of organizations have been hit by ransomware at least once in 12 months.
While there is not one specific target for these attackers, financial services, and the healthcare sector have been hit the most. The sectors continue to be primary targets as most hackers are aiming for money and the personal data to use for their purposes.
So, what can you do to protect yourself against such attacks? Here are six tips to help you win the war against ransomware:
#1 It is important to do a complete assessment of data and protect it no matter where it is stored. Additionally, folders that contain data must be mapped and the flow between each data folder must be understood among those who need to know.
#2 Develop an integrated data protection strategy that will provide a comprehensive view of the stored data. This is to help ensure you are completely ready to respond in case of a breach.
#3 For the total protection of your data, consider employing a dual backup configuration system through which you will only allow one system to be connected at any given time.
#4 In the case of a ransomware attack, set up a “gold” image of your system and configurations that fundamentally eliminate any possible risk of ransomware.
#5 Ensure all your endpoints are protected against ransomware. For example, laptops and desktops are potentially easy targets and should be especially covered and protected.
#6 Provide complete training and retraining if necessary to all users from a security point of view to ensure they equally understand their roles and responsibilities in helping to ensure data is secure.
The risk or cost of ransomware doesn’t have to destroy your organization or wreck your data. To learn more about employing a multi-layer security strategy and avoiding data loss, click the link below for more information.
