3 Requirements for a Cloud First Strategy
watch video

As a CIO, your priority is mainly to deliver an infrastructure that allows businesses to innovate and capture insights that allow them to stay ahead of the competition. One key factor is to ensure that this process is cost effective and that it aids in improving productivity.

A cloud solution is what most enterprises look to in order to achieve company objectives and to ensure an agile system is in place at a relatively low cost.

Many organizations have already started to move to the cloud and even some line managers of critical departments in organizations are transitioning and training their employees on the benefits of the cloud. While the cloud solution is working well for some, there are organizations who are still at a very nascent stage when it comes to making that move.

For the enterprises that have decided to embrace the cloud, here are three pre-requisites that must be addressed before fully making the switch:

#1 For an IT organization, the buck does not stop with the cloud solution just because your company has decided to go with the cloud. IT teams must ensure that the supplier is providing the right levels of service and that all security aspects including backup and disaster recovery are covered.

#2 Large enterprises should perform a sanity check during the migration process to ensure the cost of adoption does not go very high. In the excitement of leveraging the benefits of the cloud, enterprises do not often look at factors such as the lifecycle of the data on these virtual machines and how to define them with proper access levels.

#3 Data sovereignty is another element that must be addressed. It has been found that the majority of companies don’t go for a cloud solution because of the absence of a data center within their geographical location.

Heading into the future, the cloud is likely to be a big deal for most companies. If you are one of those companies, it is critical to explore all options and ensure all bases are covered before signing on.
